Abiageal Hyland, a 16-year-old volleyball player from Lethbridge, Alberta, is making her mark both on and off the court. With a 4.0 GPA and a deep love for volleyball, Abiageal plays as both a setter and libero. This year brought a new and exciting challenge for her as she embraced the libero position, adding versatility to her already impressive skill set.
A Unique Experience Abroad
One of the highlights of Abiageal’s volleyball journey was the opportunity to travel to England with the EXACT Sports program, where she played volleyball for a week. The experience was, in her words, “the coolest and most fun I’ve had with volleyball,” and it left a lasting impact on her passion for the sport. The opportunity to play internationally gave her a chance to grow as a player and immerse herself in the global volleyball community.
Athletic and Academic Aspirations
Abiageal’s goals are clear: she aims to follow in the footsteps of her siblings by playing volleyball at the collegiate level while pursuing a degree in veterinary medicine. She dreams of attending schools like Missoula or BYU, known for their strong volleyball programs and pre-med offerings. With her drive to become a veterinarian, she hopes to one day study in Scotland after completing her pre-med requirements.
Multi-Sport Athlete and Rugby Success
In addition to her accomplishments in volleyball, Abiageal is also a standout rugby player. This year, she was pulled up to varsity and helped her team compete in provincials—a significant achievement in her athletic journey. Balancing two sports at a high level speaks to her dedication and work ethic.
